Avocados are very popular around the world and is served as one of the main side dishes and appetizers in many countries, maybe because of its rich, creamy velvety texture or because of its one of a kind flavor. There are many different varieties of avocados and they all vary in size, color and texture but almost all of them have one thing in common, they all grow in tropical climates and when they ripen, they become really creamy and they soften into a buttery texture.

Different Types

There are two main types of avocados that are sold and consumed worldwide, they are known as the Hass and the Fuerte avocados in most parts of the world. The Hass avocado is native to Guatemala and it has a dark purple/brownish color with a slightly rough and thicker skin. It has an oval shape while the Fuerte avocado, which is native to Mexico has a thinner, smoother with a brighter green skin.

The Fuerte avocado contains less oil which makes it taste less creamy, it also has a less stronger skin therefore must be picked and carried with care to prevent it from being damaged during transport. Another fact about the Fuerte avocado is that it takes much longer to ripen than the Hass avocado that is why you find the Hass avocado is commonly found on shelves compared to the Fuerte avocado.
